About the Session:
This poster will outline how public libraries are ideal places for people to provide support, assistance and much needed resources for folks living with mental health concerns. This poster will also outline the process and steps involved in the development of a pilot project to integrate registered social workers within the London Public Library system in London, Ontario, Canada. This pilot project is a joint partnership between Kings College at Western University, the London Intercommunity Health Centre and the London Public Library. Masters of Social Work student Robin Destun led the project.This poster will identify the key issues and concerns of the community, librarians, library patrons and the general public about the lack of knowledge, training and gaps that exist in the community around mental health and mental health concerns as well as how to get support and services when experiencing a mental health crisis or concern.
Robin Destun is a social worker (RSW, MSW) that recently completed her Masters of Social Work at Kings College at Western University in London, Ontario, Canada. Robin has been living and working in Vancouver, British Columbia for the last 5 years and is employed within numerous mental health and substance use services with the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. Robin is passionate about health equity and creating safe and inclusive spaces for all members of society.
