About the Session
In this presentation, we will discuss the British Columbia Nurses’ Union’s role in negotiating mandatory implementation of the National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace in all health authorities across BC. We will provide background on how the Standard came to be included in the most recent Nurses’ Bargaining Association Collective Agreement, and a summary of the challenges and opportunities that come with working jointly with health employers towards system change. We will also discuss specific examples of initiatives under way across BC, the union’s role in monitoring and performance improvement, and the potential for system change that benefits patients, nurses and employers.
Adriane Gear is Executive Councillor, Health and Safety for the British Columbia Nurses’ Union.
